The Children in the Foster care and ICCP category are often the most vulnerable. Many come from homes impacted by trauma, and receive some state support, but its not nearly enough to cover the true cost of high quality care. Help us bridge the gap.

“When we invest in early childhood education, we’re not just preparing children for school—we’re preparing communities for a stronger future. Quality early learning experiences lay the foundation for lifelong success, particularly for children from underserved backgrounds.”

— Dr. Walter S. Gilliam, Professor of Child Psychiatry and Psychology at the Yale University Child Study Center.

“We feel incredibly thankful that scholarship options are available, because without it, we wouldn’t have been able to attend - and now we can’t imagine being anywhere else! ”

Josie Luker (Mother and scholarship recipient)

“Programs of this quality, can be life changing for children in the foster care program. ”

Dr. Rosa Maria (Board of National Foster Care Program)

“For every dollar invested in the first 1,000 days of life, a country receives about $8 in returns.”

Dr. Rafael Pérez-Escamilla, Professor at the Yale School of Public Health

Although background checks, and CPR certification is required for volunteers, it can be a deeply meaningful experience for those who choose to support SCC through their time.

  • The traditional model of the education system is broken, and its time for a change! At Sequoia Children’s Center, we embrace the Curiosity Approach — a blend of Montessori, Reggio Emilia, Steiner, and nature-based learning — to create a warm, home-like environment where children are seen as capable, curious, and full of potential. Unlike traditional models that prioritize compliance, worksheets, and “Kindergarten readiness,” our approach nurtures intrinsic motivation and joyful exploration. Educators act as co-learners and guides, not instructors, while children are trusted with real tools, open-ended materials, and the freedom to take risks and follow their own questions. This fosters resilience, creativity, empathy, and a lifelong love of learning — preparing children not just for school, but for the world.
